Social media was awash with a multitude of images highlighting the success of VSA’s glitzy Opening Ceremony of the FIVB Coaches Course, Level 1 hosted at the Bon Hotel in Bloemfontein. The well attended function by members of the Free State macro sporting structures and invited guests set the stage for the eager participants to pull out all the stops to attain the international coaching qualification.
Not even the chilly Bloemfontein weather could put a damper on the spirits of eagerparticipants to end the 4 -day gruelling session clutching a FIVB Coaches’ certificate in their icy hands. According to VSA President, Mr.Anthony Mokoena past experience has shown that sheer guts and determination are the hall marks of success at these coaching courses. Mokoena who has taken off from work to oversee the programme feels that by the enthusiasm and skill levels exhibited by the participants more than a 98%
pass rate could be achieved.
Meanwhile, immediately after the official opening ceremony FIVB Instructor Shadrack Modiakgotla from Botswana swung into action with the first of many theory sessions, inter alia to apprise the participants of the introduction of ‘’mini-volleyball as a precursor to the six-person format of the game. Being a versatile sport played by both young and old it was prudent to introduce children to learn the joys of participating in mini-volleyball through training and playing the sport.
While the Instructor put the participants through their paces learning the skills involved in mini-volleyball at the Tempe Military Base Sports Hall the ‘’joys of participation’’ in the sport was upper most in their minds.
