South Africa’s potential for growth in volleyball and its recent surge in the development of volleyball and beach volleyball have not gone unnoticed by the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB).
In addition, given South Africa’s strategic geographical positioning on the southern tip of the African continent and its accessibility to travellers from around the world, the FIVB has given its seal of approval for South Africa to be the focal point of its Global Development Plan.
According to the FIVB:
‘’ South Africa is a key part of the FIVB Nucleus Plan aimed at growing volleyball around the world and we are committed to supporting the growth of volleyball in South Africa.’’
‘’ It’s a historic first for Volleyball South Africa of a visit of this magnitude by a FIVB delegation to include VSA in its global development initiative,’’ said VSA President Anthony Mokoena.
The FIVB delegation comprising, Mr.Hitesh Molhotra (Head); Mr.Gilberto Amauri De Godoy Filho; Mr.Steve Trutton; Mr.Mushtaque Mohammed; Mr.Zdeslav Barac will engage with the Volleyball South Africa delegation headed by Mr.Anthony Mokoena (President); Mr.Mike Makhubela (Vice President); Mr.Loet Groenewald (VSA Technical Director) and Mr.Thierry Mabeka (VSA Office Manager).
FIVB’s discussion with the VSA delegation will focus on, inter alia:
- Volleyball South Africa’s Development Plan.
- Preparations for the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event taking place in Cape Town in November this year (2022).
- Development of South Africa’s national beach volleyball teams.
FIVB President, Dr.Ary S Graca F gave South Africa the ‘’thumbs-up’’ when he said:
‘’FIVB is committed to supporting the long -term development of volleyball and beach volleyball in South Africa, share their experience and knowledge and work with South Africa’s Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, SASCOC and VSA to develop strong competitive national teams in South Africa.’’
The FIVB delegation will also meet with DSAC and SASCOC on this ground breaking initiative for volleyball in South Africa.
The meeting is presently taking place in Cape Town.
