FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A dark cloud descended on South Africa on 15 March 2020 when Health Minister, Dr. Zweli Mkhize confirmed the spread of the dreaded Corona Virus, with the first fatality being reported on 27 March 2020.
Life would never be the same again!!!!
The Government swung into action declaring a National State of Disaster and the imposition of a lockdown to save lives. All sporting activities ground to a halt.
However, over the months with the lockdown yielding positive results in ‘flattening Covid-19 curve’ the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, the Honorable Nathi Mthethwa invited National Sports Federations to submit their respective plans to resume activities in a phased-in approach in post Covid-19 South Africa.
To this end my heartfelt gratitude goes to VSA Technical Director, Loet Groenewald for compiling a lengthy, well researched document that detailed volleyball’s plan ‘To Return To Play’ and Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr. Kevin Subban for his contributions and playing an oversight role in the said document.
It is imperative that Provincial leadership workshop the ‘Return To Play’ document and cascade the information to their respective membership. Provincial leadership is reminded that all health protocols contained in the document are the responsibility of the province. It is mandatory for provinces to appoint a ‘Compliance Officer’ who will monitor the day to day activities ensuring that all the health protocols are strictly adhered to.
I am pleased to announce that all club activities iro training will commence on 1 October 2020.
Beach Volleyball competitions will commence on 4 December 2020 and Indoor volleyball competitions including schools volleyball are set to begin on 1 February 2021.
Stay Safe, Be Safe.
END
