The 2nd edition of Volleyball South Africa’s flagship event, the 2019 National Volleyball League (NVL) hosted jointly with the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture gets underway at the Kempton Park Indoor Sports Centre in Johannesburg in mid June.
The NVL caters for senior men and women’s provincial teams in the indoor and beach volleyball formats of the sport. According to President Anthony Mokoena this year’s event will cater for all nine provinces indoor men’s teams and the top four women’s teams. Mokoena went on to say that the top four women’s teams were chosen by their consistent performance in the upper echelons of the Annual Inter – Provincial Tournament (IPT) over the last five years.
“ In the 2020 National Volleyball League all nine provinces in the women’s category will be part of the tournament,” said the VSA President.
The Dries Niemandt Amphitheatre in Kempton Park will be the venue for the NVL Beach Volleyball event. The competition which caters for both genders is set to attract a huge following of spectators as the country’s top beach volleyball players will be donning their provincial colours to lock horns to get to the podium as medallists.
“ While this year’s event caters for the six provinces that have regular provincial beach volleyball competitions the other three will be included in next year’s competition after having included the discipline on their respective calendars,” added Mokoena.
