The Belhar Sport Centre in Belville, Cape Town, last used for a national volleyball championship a
decade ago, came alive when hundreds of school children in the under 14 and under 17 divisions
converged on the Belhar venue on Monday, 3 July.
Branded as the National Schools Sport Championship funded by the Department of Sports, Arts and
Culture (DSAC) the event is held annually for provinces to pit their strength against one another on a
national platform.
Not even the challenges of Eskom’s loadshedding experienced twice a day could put a damper on
the spirits of the youngsters who were eager to showcase their talents after a two- year absence of
school sport because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fixtures in the u14 and u17 divisions for all nine (9) provinces got under way for both genders on the
opening day of the National Schools Volleyball Championship.
