The National Schools Sport Championship (NSSC) Winter Games gets underway in the Western Cape from 3 to 7 July in the under 14 and 17 divisions for both genders.
School sport ground to a halt in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. The last Schools Championship was hosted at Wits University in 2019 in the under 15 and 17 divisions.
When school sport was given the ‘’green light’’ to commence with its activities in early 2022 both children and school sport educators were overjoyed and their enthusiasm was soon seen on the sports field.
With the possibility of the National School Sport Championship resuming, schools began their sports programmes in earnest in preparation for the imminent national event. When the dates for the Winter Games were confirmed by DSAC schools went ‘’full throttle’’ to prepare their players to get into their respective district teams as it is the platform to showcase one’s talents to be selected in to provincial teams.
All nine (9) provinces’ u14 and u17 teams in both genders will converge on the Mother City on 3 July for the 2022 NSSC Winter Games.
The indoor volleyball championship will be staged at the Belhar Indoor Sports Centre on the Cape Flats. Approximately 550 players will be locking horns for the accolade of being crowned as the best volleyball playing province in the country.
‘’The National Championship is the ideal platform to deliver good quality school sport programme of identifying and unearthing talent and nurturing it to become future champions,’’ added SASVA President, Koketso Leso.
Volleyball South Africa President, Mr.Anthony Mokoena said:
‘’ On behalf of VSA I convey my good wishes to the members of the Organising Committee of the National Schools’ Volleyball Championship, the participants, officials and volunteers and trust that they will go the extra few kilometres in making the long awaited the 2022 event a memorable one.’’
