Volleyball South Africa has completed its 6th Leg of FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tour which was held on the 24th and 25th of April 2021 in Durban, New Beach. The South African’s 6th Leg which was the 1st Leg of the Durban Tour, was attended by 5 teams on the women’s section and 14 teams on the men’s section. Amazingly, the Durban Tour was also blessed by one team from Zimbabwe on the men’s section. Recapitulating on the last event, the Durban Tour was staged after SA Volleyball has successfully concluded its 5 Legs of FIVB Homologated Tours which were held in Cape Town in the past weeks.
The Kwazulu Natal Volleyball Union President Mr. Deva Moodliar expressed that that the first leg of the Durban tour was well organized and great performance was displayed. “We were commended by the participants for staging a tourney of that nature,” Deva added. “Moreover, the players are happy to see the competitions taking place once again after the long break imposed by COVID-19 and they are looking forward to participate in the upcoming tourneys,” said Deva Moodliar.
Sharing the same sentiments, the President of Volleyball South Africa Mr. Anthony Mokoena was overwhelmed by how the tourney was organized and he thanked KZN Volleyball for their hard working spirit to ensure that the event is successful. Mokoena further advised players to respect the competitions and the rules of the game since the games are used as part of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Qualifications.
The results of the 1st Leg of Durban FIVB Homologated Beach Volleyball Tour are as follows:
WOMEN
SEMI-FINAL 1
The partnership of Keshnee Moodley and Nina Wiesheryr defeated the association of Ayanda Radebe and Adisa Mercy by 2-0 (21-10 and 21-13).
SEMI-FINAL 2
The alliance of Sphiwe Radebe and Nadia Riabkrathok overpowered the team of Phindile Xoro and Itumeleng Motlokoa by 2-0 (21-15 and 21-17).
3RD/4TH PLACE
The duo Phindile Xoro and Itumeleng Motlokoa emerged as the bronze medalist on women section after outshining the lineup of Ayanda Radebe and Adisa Mercy by 2-0 (21-15 and 21-16).
FINALS
The highly contested finals were won by the partnership of Keshnee Moodley and Nina Wiesheryr after outscoring the squad of Sphiwe Radebe and Nadia Riabkrathok by 2-1 (18-21, 21-19 and 15-11).
MEN
SEMI-FINAL 1
The team consisted of young stars by the name of Mthokozisi Mdingi and Jonas Mothobi secured their final spot after a highly contested battle against the Zimbabwe based partnership of Keith Machakaire and Tawanda Mafuva by 2-1 (21-12, 13-21 and 15-9).
SEMI-FINAL 2
The pair of Jerome Fredericks and Danilo von Ludwiger earned the final spot after walkover against their counterpart, the team of Shaien Govender and Leo Williams.
3RD/4TH PLACE
The partnership of Keith Machakaire and Tawanda Mafuva won on walkover against the team of Shaien Govender and Leo Williams.
FINALS
The duo Jerome Fredericks and Danilo von Ludwiger were crowned the champions of the 1st Leg of Durban Tour after winning in a clash for gold medals against the partnership of Mthokozisi Mdingi and Jonas Mothobi by 2-0 (21-17 and 21-19).
